BluDragonfly - Glass Art by Christine Wilson

AAE Glass would like to share some beautiful fused glass art from BluDragonfly - Glass Art by Christine Wilson.  Christine has been creating for 20 years and has dozens of unique, fused glass designs to offer these days. I will let Christine tell you about her history with glass and we thank her for sharing.
I am originally from the west coast of Canada and relocated to Colorado in 1997.   The mountains of Colorado are such an inspiration for richness of color and texture and the beauty of nature.  Many of my projects are inspired by the changing colors of the aspen trees and the deep blue sky of Colorado.  There really is a reason why they call it colorful Colorado!

My interest in creating jewelry started over 20 years ago.  In 2007 I took a beginning lampworking class at a local studio so that I could incorporate my own handmade glass beads into jewelry projects.  My fascination with glass pulled me in the direction of fused glass art in 2009.   I followed up my study in fused glass by taking Tanya Veit's Extreme Fusing I & II Workshops in Denver in 2011 and 2012.  She has inspired me to create beautiful works of art in glass fusing.  I have also participated in Tanya's webinars hosted by Glass Patterns Quarterly.  When Tanya is unable to come to us, it is refreshing to be able to do a webinar and learn additional techniques from her!  I am also a regular participant at the Saturday Night Video Club!

As my glass art grew in popularity, I began participating in Colorado art and craft shows and started my own business, BluDragonfly.   I currently I have an Etsy shop - www.BluDragonfly.etsy.com.  I love experimenting with color combinations and I am always interested in which pieces of glass art customers are drawn towards.   Sometimes I am lucky enough to combine my handmade glass beads into fused glass art projects to make truly unique items.

All my glass projects are created in my home studio in Northern Colorado.  All the pieces are started from scratch – I cut the glass and create the design using colorful glass, stringer and frit combinations.  I love the aspect that each piece becomes a One Of A Kind (OOAK).

My fused glass pendants have also won several awards in various local jewelry competitions.  When I am not in the studio, my husband and I are out exploring the hiking trails of Northern Colorado.

Classy Creations Glass Launches New Website

Mike and Gwen Hertz of Classy Creations Glass have launched a new website to showcase their glass art jewelry.  Classy Creations offers a wide variety of glass jewelry for glass lovers of every kind. The Hertz's have been AAE Glass supporters for a long time and we are happy to see them moving forward with their successful business.  They incorporate several techniques and by doing this, they create very unique, wearable glass art. Be sure to see their work at Classy Creations Glass and read more about the Hertz's below.  Mike and Gwen would also like to invite you to attend an artist reception at Gallery East Art Center to see their newest creations.  September 13th from 5-7pm.  11761 SE US HWY 441 BELLEVIEW FLORIDA (located in the Almeida plaza).

Mike and Gwen Hertz became interested in fused glass after retiring.  After some classes, the interest soon became a passion.  While Gwen focuses on a wide range of fused glass techniques, Mike has broadened his use of glass to faceted or beveled dichroic glass jewelry. They work together on everything, so this venture is truly a family affair.
Both Gwen and Mike have taken numerous classes to learn more about glass and wire sculpture. They show their artwork in several art galleries and boutique stores, in addition to this website.
Gwen has found that every time she wears one of their creations, she gets lots of compliments -  and you can too.
All of our work is guaranteed for workmanship and quality.

Featured Artist Crystel Cabrera of CCDesigns Jewelry

AAE Glass wants to introduce you to Crystel Cabrera of CCDesigns Jewelry.  Crystel is highly inspired by nature in Florida.  She makes her own rules and that is something we admire.  Here is more about Crystel and her beautiful glass jewelry.
LIVING IN FLORIDA, I find nature to be my constant inspiration, from the colors of the ocean and its tropical surroundings to the golden brilliance of the sun. I like unusual colors and designs and love creating one of a kind pieces. Embellishments and unique findings add playfulness and excitement to my pieces. I love all of my creations and it is sometimes hard to part with them, if you are buying one I hope you love it as much as I do.
FLORIDA JEWELRY DESIGNER, CRYSTEL CABRERA built her career in glass fusing by following her own set of rules.  With a commitment to remain true to her vision it has allowed her the ability to change with the times while keeping her designs pure.
Born in Delaware, Crystel
spent her childhood surrounded
by musicians and artists. Her biggest influence was her grandmother, who introduced her to sewing and art.
With aspirations to be an artist and a love for art it laid the foundation for creativity and inspiration, which is evident in her designs.
Attending the ART INSTITUTE OF PHILADELPHIA for graphic design in 1982, she moved to Florida to pursue a career in design. Working in the publishing industry as a Creative Director, she was again surrounded by other creative individuals who motivated her to open her own graphic design business.
While successful for many years in graphic design, it was time for Crystel’s next chapter, getting back to her artistic roots.  After exploring many mediums of art, she stumbled upon glass fusing while vacationing in Key West. Intrigued by the process of fusing glass by melting it at high temperatures in
a kiln, Crystel was hooked.
Inspired by Florida’s natural surroundings, Crystel works
with different types of glass combinations to achieve unique, brilliantly colored art to wear. From necklaces and bracelets, to earrings and pendants, each piece of art is individually hand-crafted to create her one-of-a-kind signature pieces.

Joshua Mazet Teaching at AAE Glass

AAE Glass is very proud to present world renowned hot glass artist Joshua Mazet at the AAE Glass studio in Cape Coral, Florida. This is your chance to learn from the best.  Josh teaches beginner through advanced hot glass students.  He will be in Cape Coral, Florida from November 8th through the 11th.  Be sure to catch him if you can.

Josh Mazet received a BFA in Ceramics from the University of Oregon in 1999. After graduating he was invited into the Fine Arts Department as a resident artist. For three years he held a studio at the U of O, instructing 25 students plus community members year round in the art and process of wood fired ceramics. It was during this time Josh was introduced to lampworking. With his degree in ceramics behind him, Josh had a natural understanding and comfort with flame atmospheres, kilns, and the chemistry involved with glass. This compounded with the similarities of the materials, allowed for a smooth and rapid learning of a new medium. In 2003, along with brother Eli, they began Mazet Studios, since then it has grown to include their youngest brother Tim and mother Tym Ann. Their work with flameworked creatures, often focuses on sea life, while the three brothers also produce a wide range of marbles, and jewelry easily recognizable by their use of color and dichroic glass. Mazet Studios glass can now be found in public and private collections, and fine galleries through out the U.S. In addition to this Josh regularly gives class, workshops and demonstrations.

Featured Glass Artist Julie Feldman

AAE Glass is proud to feature glass artist Julie Feldman of Funk Sister GalleryFunk Sister Gallery features beautiful glass art from wearable glass art through bowls, plates and boxes.  There is something for everyone so be sure to check out Funk Sister Gallery.  Here is more about Julie in her own words. Thank you Julie for taking the time to share your work with us, it is beautiful.
My love for glass, color, texture, creativity and thinking outside of the box began at a very early age.  My mother can tell you the story of how i hated being in the playpen, my first time in it was my last time in it!
I am a self taught artist - learning as I go, much akin to this journey of life we are all on.  I took a stained glass class so I could learn how to cut glass and get my feet wet but it didn't satisfy me creatively.  When I stepped into the land of fusing it rocked my world and I was off and running.
I love to create jewelry, bowls, sushi sets, coasters and will soon be stepping into new territory~ I will try my hand at mixing mediums by working with precious metal clay and fused glass....so keep your eyes peeled :~)
Unless I am working on a commissioned piece I rarely sit down to work with a plan.  Sure, I may have a shape in mind for a piece of jewelry or perhaps a dish or bowl but other than that I am most comfortable letting the creative energy flow through me and out of my hands.  My 2nd bedroom is my work studio and my floor kiln is in there and boy, it sure does get hot in there. My dream is to have a working gallery where I can have several kilns of assorted sizes so I can start making larger pieces, hopefully a line of dinnerware at some point.  Since I am a massage therapist and yoga instructor I think it would be very cool to house everything under one roof and then I can be in one place doing what I love.

Please visit www.funksistergallery.com and do let me know you stopped by.  The website is a work in progress but isn't everything?
