My Glass Odyssey

We at AAE Glass like to share fun information with our readers whenever we can.  John Waterman (writer, director and producer) took a road trip to visit several different glass shops and came back with a documentary film called My Glass Odyssey. You can view the trailer as well as interviews with John on the My Glass Odyssey web page.
John and his dog Frito interviewed 99 glass artists in three years to compile this film.  John won a Silver Ace award for this documentary this past weekend and his dedication to spreading the word about glass art is just what this industry needs.  I believe that I speak for all glass artists when I say "Thanks for your work John."

It's that time!  Saturday November 19th from 5-9pm at the BRAND NEW AAE GLASS ART STUDIO located 1228 Lafayette St. Cape Coral, Fl, 33904.  We will have a live band, food and adult beverages (soft drinks as well) for all to enjoy.  If you are looking for something different to do this Saturday, look no further.  Please bring anyone you know who likes to have a good time, laugh and meet great people.  If you know people who are opposed to laughter and having a good time, please leave them at home, this party isn't for them.

AAE Glass Appreciates Your Patience

Glass Art Will Change When You Walk Through These Doors

AAE Glass would like to update you on our progress and what we are doing to better serve you.  First off, a huge thank you to everyone who has wished us well and supported us as we have grown at a tremendous pace these past few years.  We are here because of you and it is you we are here to serve.  It goes to show that customer service, fresh knowledge and innovative products are in high demand.  Myself and Tanya always strive to answer your questions personally, in a timely manner and we ask you to bear with us as we spend the next 2 weeks opening our studio and hosting anyone and everyone who would like to stop by and say hello.  We would be happy to spend time with you while you pick our brains and we pick yours.

While we are opening the studio, we ask that all emailers be patient for answers as our time is being spent making the best teaching facility available to the glass community.  Not only are we offering glass classes, but we are going to offer classes for artists of all mediums.  Canvas painting, faux finishing, metal work and beyond!  When you see the artwork on the walls of our studio, your jaw is going to drop, it is that simple.  It is my job to convince our muralists to teach classes in our studio and I won't take no for an answer.  They are so talented and have such a passion for what they do that it would be criminal for them not to share it with those who want to learn.  I am going to make this happen for anyone who wants to learn what they have to offer.  This I promise!

We have been working tirelessly the past few weeks to make sure we have the best equipment available for you to use as we expand our Extreme Fusing series of classes.  We have had 100 sign ups for beginner classes, X1 and X2 in 3 weeks time!  This is all Tanya Veit!  If you have had the opportunity to take a workshop with Tanya, you know what kind of energy and passion she brings every single day.  She could be teaching algebra and people would want to come back for more!  She blows my mind sometimes...Most of the time!


The Extreme series of glass classes is here to stay and Cape Coral, Florida is the place to learn.  We will make sure you have the best environment to learn and expand your glass knowledge, but as important, we are going to make sure you have fun doing it.  Tanya, Mark, John and Molly are going to make sure you enjoy yourself in Cape Coral.  If you are bringing a significant other who isn't interested in glass, Mark will take them golfing, to the beach, to a local watering hole to watch football or anything else...within reason.  One thing this group does is have fun, no matter the circumstance.  We are so excited to offer our knowledge, expertise and anything else you ask of us.  We are full of energy and are here to serve.  As I said before, this is just the beginning.  We have no preconceived notions when it comes to this business.  We are fresh, going to do things professionally, have fun doing it and let the chips fall where they may.  If our students are happy, we are happy. 


Again, thank you to each and every person who has helped spread the word about AAE Glass!  We have built this business through grass roots effort, word of mouth, hard work and following through on what we say we are going to do.  Simply the same qualities I look for in anyone I am going to do business with.

Cape Coral Florida and AAE Glass

I wanted to share some information about Cape Coral, Florida and what a great part of the country it really is, both to live and vacation in.  Cape Coral, Florida is located over the bridge from Fort Myers, north of Naples and about 80 miles south of Tampa and St. Petersburg, on the Gulf of Mexico, in southwest Florida.  Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is located a short cab ride from the downtown Cape. 

Cape Coral is know as a "Waterfront Wonderland" with more than 400 miles of canals.  That is more canals than any other city in the world. The canals were dug in the late 1950's and 60's and can be found everywhere you look.  They were constructed similar to the way many cities construct streets.  A map of the canal system in Cape Coral rivals a road map in many cities.

Cape Coral is centrally located between beautiful beaches on all sides.  Fort Myers beach is 10 minutes from the downtown Cape and is a very popular tourist attraction.  Fort Myers beach has been a vacation destination for families and young couples for decades. If it is good food and relaxation you are looking for, Fort Myers Beach is perfect.

The downtown Cape has its own unique character.  Along Cape Coral Parkway you will find numerous restaurants, art shops, any kind of food you have a taste for and of course several watering holes for when you get parched walking in the beautiful Florida climate.  This is where the AAE Glass teaching studio is located.  Unless you want to venture off to other parts of southwest Florida, there is no reason to rent a car. Everything you need is within walking distance from the studio including the Holiday Inn located 2 blocks away in the heart of downtown Cape Coral. 

Speaking of the climate, Cape Coral, Florida records 355 days of sunshine per year.  Quick math tells me that only leaves 10 days per year of cloud cover.  Now in the summer months it tends to be humid and hot.  During the summer months it will rain just about every day for 30-60 minutes around 4-5pm.  It is hot and sunny the other 23 hours per day.  From November through April the average temperature in the Cape is a perfect 78 degrees.  During the summer months of May through October the average temperature rises to 90 degrees.  For those looking for an escape from the cold winter months up north, Cape Coral is your answer.


The last feature I want to touch on is the huge art festival held in the downtown Cape on the 2nd January of every year.  Attendance at this festival tops 100,000 people with over 300 artists displaying their work.  Art of all mediums is definitely a major driving force in Cape Coral.  I have met numerous great painters, sculptors and glass artists in the Cape.  It is a very tight knit art community and everyone works together to build the art community as a whole.

This is just a quick blurb about a few of the highlights offered in Cape Coral, Florida.  We hope to see you enjoying some of the great things that southwest Florida has to offer.

Color Me Bad Fusing Decals and BluDragonfly Glass

AAE Glass wants to thank Christine Wilson of BluDragonfly for displaying our Color Me Bad decal sheets in such a good light.  These decals can be painted by you! Who doesn't want to add their own touch or flare to their wearable dichroic glass art pieces?  Thanks Christine.

A few years ago I took a fusing glass class at a local studio and fell in love with fusing. After that class I came home and started experimenting with different techniques. I discovered Tanya's website - AAEGlass.com and her decals. After that the direction of my work changed!

All my fused glass jewelry is created in my home studio. All the pieces are started from scratch – I cut out the glass and create the design using dichroic glass and custom-made frit combinations. In some of my pendants I select a decal that best compliments the colors in the pendant. All of the pieces require several firings. Along with fused glass jewelry I also make lampwork (glass) beads and incorporate them into jewelry.

In July 2011 I took Tanya Veit's Extreme Fusing Workshop in Denver. This is the best class that I have ever taken and nothing can compare with the information on fusing that Tanya is willing to share. Recently I have been experimenting with the Color Me Bad decals. They are a lot of fun and allow your imagination to run wild playing with different colors. They look exceptionally dramatic on the dichroic backgrounds. In August 2011 I participated in the 2011 Fairplay Colorado Bead and Fiber Show. My "Pelican" pendant placed 3rd in the juried competition for Jewelry/Wearables.

I will participating in Art Shows this fall in Arvada, Greeley, and Windsor CO. I am a member of the Rocky Mountain Flameworkersorganization which is a group of local glass artists who meet once a month. I am also a Self Representing Artist (SRA #126). I currently have 2 websites for my jewelry ETSY and BLUDRAGONFLY. My work is also available at the Mountain Blown Glass Shop in Estes Park, CO.

I can't thank Tanya and AAE Glass enough for the workshops and the wonderful selection of decals and dichroic glass available on their website. They have added a whole new and exciting dimension to my art.
