Thank you to everyone who participated in this years contest. You had the judges pulling their hair out trying to narrow the winners down. Thank you to our guest judges Patty Gray, Paul Tarlow and Kristine Crawley, artist/educator for taking the time to pick their favorites and provide commentary, it really helped. The imagination and creativeness expressed through this contest was mind blowing! So much time and detail went into each piece and the support from each other, for each other, on the new AAE Glass Jewelry page is so encouraging. Thank you.
A huge thank you goes out to Olympic Kilns who generously donated the grand prize of a New Vitrograph Kiln. Olympic is the only kiln we use at AAE Glass. Before you make a decision on purchasing a new kiln, be sure to contact Tanya Veit with any questions. Olympic builds to suit your needs and when you buy from Tanya, you just might get a firing schedule or two from her!

David was a big part of the glass world and his techniques will live on through those he touched. The fused glass industry has been on an upswing due in part to people like David Alcala, Patty Gray, Paul Tarlow and Tanya Veit. It is such a good feeling to see what we can accomplish when faced with adversity. We hope everyone had fun with the contest and we will be sure to run another in the future.
Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!
Sincerely,
The Veit Family

AAE Glass Features The Glass Jewelry Shack
AAE Glass wants to share some great glass art from Barbara Sargent of The Glass Jewelry Shack. Barbara has been a friend for years. Her work is great and her website is professional. She is offering FREE SHIPPING now, so be sure to take advantage. Here is more about Barbara in her own words.
I grew up in a small town and live in that same town today. I was born into a loving family of 7. I was married at the ripe age of 21 and had a son by the age of 23. They are the rocks of my life. My husband and son work together building homes and other various construction jobs.
I have been doing some form of craft since I learned hand and eye coordination. My mom used to try to throw things away and I would pull them back out of the garbage and make things out of them. First it was making doll furniture out of egg cartons or whatever I could get my hands on to make that doll house look great. Seems funny today!! As I got older I have loved several crafts such as: woodworking, flower arranging, rubber stamping, scrapbooking, polymer clay jewelry and finally, glass jewelry.
I first began by stringing beads together, but I wanted to be different. I did not want to be a designer of just putting beads together. I figured if I designed the beads, my jewelry would always be different. So, I began with Polymer clay; they were definitely different!! No two pieces were exactly alike.....but I could not get them to shine..tried many things, but nothing satisfied me. So, I went to a place in New York (50 miles) from my home; called Corning Glass. I became a member the same day!! I was so excited about glass and the beauty of it all.......I just fell in love with everything and anything made with glass. I did sit down and make one bead with their instruction and it was great fun and could not stop imagining all the different ways to form the glass to make beads and much more.
I started buying books and more books and then embraced the internet for things I could not find in books. After about a year, I felt comfortable with my first purchase of a torch to make glass beads. With the books near my side, I began to melt glass in the flame and in forms that I have to this day because they were so bad!! LOL!! Just keeping the glass on the mandrel was a chore. After many hours and days of practice, I got pretty good. A year later, I was placing an order through one of my glass vendors and I asked him if he had a minute to talk about glass. He asked me if I had ever heard of glass fusing, "Glass Fusing" what is that? We discussed it for a bit and before I knew it, I was buying every book I could find on fused glass.
My husband during this whole process would keep asking me, "Is this still a hobby?" LOL!! Currently today, I am still scrapbooking, making beautiful cards and floral arrangements for stores locally. Oh, I was also working full time through all of these years. So, I think I was working to pay a few bills and buy any craft items needed, but having the time of my life.
Finally after all the reading and research, I purchased my first kiln and began another era of trail and error glass. Still have a few of those pieces as well. Even today some of the glass I put together does not become the masterpiece I had hoped for, and then it turns around and surprises me the next batch. But today I have my own website as you can see and I am currently selling at the Settlement House in Sylvania, PA; Country Cafe in Sayre, PA; Bearly Enough in Mansfield, PA, PA North Country Artisan in Towanda, PA and Corning Glass in Corning, NY!!! Very excited about Corning Glass!!! Funny I fell in love with glass while looking at all the wonders of glass in their showroom and now I am an artist in that very same showroom. What a dream come true!
Currently I am reaching out to other states. I currently do a list of craft and art shows, home shows and thoroughly love seeing and talking to people about glass. A list of my shows are shown on this website. Just go to my "Show and Events" calendar. My customers love the dicrhroic glass especially!! As I talk to people at these shows, I am reminded of all the cheap glass that is coming into this country. I do not know how they do it so cheap, I cannot. But of course they sell thousands of the same pieces.
That brings me to my final paragraph. My pieces are one of a kind. You will not find them anywhere else. Nowhere!! You may see a similar piece, but never the same. The glass forms it's own beauty. You will benefit from thousands of compliments on your glass jewelry because of it's mysterious look. Dichroic glass is just stunning to see in the sunlight. Many of my return customers tell me they have received so many compliments on the pieces they have purchased.
In closing, thank you for stopping in and I hope to meet you some day or I just might see one of my designs about your chest or a ring on your finger or a set of earrings that you just can't help but notice. So, I will say "Thank you" now an tell you that my dream is to be walking down the street someday and notice one of my designs coming toward me. Thanks again!!
Thanks for sharing,
AAE

AAE Glass Appreciates Your Patience
Glass Art Will Change When You Walk Through These Doors
AAE Glass would like to update you on our progress and what we are doing to better serve you. First off, a huge thank you to everyone who has wished us well and supported us as we have grown at a tremendous pace these past few years. We are here because of you and it is you we are here to serve. It goes to show that customer service, fresh knowledge and innovative products are in high demand. Myself and Tanya always strive to answer your questions personally, in a timely manner and we ask you to bear with us as we spend the next 2 weeks opening our studio and hosting anyone and everyone who would like to stop by and say hello. We would be happy to spend time with you while you pick our brains and we pick yours.
While we are opening the studio, we ask that all emailers be patient for answers as our time is being spent making the best teaching facility available to the glass community. Not only are we offering glass classes, but we are going to offer classes for artists of all mediums. Canvas painting, faux finishing, metal work and beyond! When you see the artwork on the walls of our studio, your jaw is going to drop, it is that simple. It is my job to convince our muralists to teach classes in our studio and I won't take no for an answer. They are so talented and have such a passion for what they do that it would be criminal for them not to share it with those who want to learn. I am going to make this happen for anyone who wants to learn what they have to offer. This I promise!
We have been working tirelessly the past few weeks to make sure we have the best equipment available for you to use as we expand our Extreme Fusing series of classes. We have had 100 sign ups for beginner classes, X1 and X2 in 3 weeks time! This is all Tanya Veit! If you have had the opportunity to take a workshop with Tanya, you know what kind of energy and passion she brings every single day. She could be teaching algebra and people would want to come back for more! She blows my mind sometimes...Most of the time!
The Extreme series of glass classes is here to stay and Cape Coral, Florida is the place to learn. We will make sure you have the best environment to learn and expand your glass knowledge, but as important, we are going to make sure you have fun doing it. Tanya, Mark, John and Molly are going to make sure you enjoy yourself in Cape Coral. If you are bringing a significant other who isn't interested in glass, Mark will take them golfing, to the beach, to a local watering hole to watch football or anything else...within reason. One thing this group does is have fun, no matter the circumstance. We are so excited to offer our knowledge, expertise and anything else you ask of us. We are full of energy and are here to serve. As I said before, this is just the beginning. We have no preconceived notions when it comes to this business. We are fresh, going to do things professionally, have fun doing it and let the chips fall where they may. If our students are happy, we are happy.
Again, thank you to each and every person who has helped spread the word about AAE Glass! We have built this business through grass roots effort, word of mouth, hard work and following through on what we say we are going to do. Simply the same qualities I look for in anyone I am going to do business with.
We look forward to seeing you at the grand opening on Saturday November 19th at AAE Glass Studio located at 1228 Lafayette St. Cape Coral, Fl 33904 from 5-9pm. Live music, food provided by chef John and adult beverages. If you can't make it then, we will see you in an Extreme glass fusing workshop or anytime you find time to walk through our doors. If my excitement doesn't resonate in this blog post, then come meet us in person, you won't be disappointed.

AAE Glass New Dichroic Fused Glass Jewelry and Decals
AAE Glass
Tanya Veit has spent the last few days experimenting with the new, larger fused glass decals AAE Glass recently released. She has been combining the fused glass decals to create stellar designs (above).
While we have had numerous beautiful, larger glass pieces shared with us by our friends (bowls, vases, plates, etc), Tanya shows these larger decals can easily be incorporated into your glass jewelry the same way as the smaller decals, they can even be used right along with the smaller decals. This has opened up so many designing possibilities as well as other aspects for Tanya to share with students in her famous Extreme Fusing Workshops, coming soon to Cape Coral, Florida in the brand new AAE Glass Studio. You won't want to miss this top notch learning experience and if you have had the pleasure of meeting Tanya, you know you will have fun right along with the intense learning.
Be sure to check out other posts on this blog to see these fused glass decals in action.
Thanks to everyone who has shared their work with us. We are excited to know that these new decals have been received in such a positive way. Again, the superior quality to any other decals on the market shines through.
Have a great weekend!

AAE Glass Features PoetryGift.com
At AAE Glass, we make it a priority to supply glass artists with unique supplies and provide tutorials and information to help glass artists grow their businesses. We have featured many glass artists right here on our blog and just by giving that little extra exposure, they have been able to increase their sales. We want to give you avenues to help you sell your wearable glass art.
That is exactly what this 100% woman owned and operated company, that has been in business for over 20 years, can do for you. If you are in the market for a gift for any occasion, PoetryGift.com has what you need. As a gift giver, what is the best part of giving a gift? Most people would agree that it is seeing the recipient's “reaction” when they open it. Well, for over 20 years, PoetryGift.com has been exceeding expectations in the “reaction” department. I have had the first hand opportunity to see the reactions of people when receiving a gift from PoetryGift.com and they deliver every time; chances are the recipient will even shed a tear of joy or appreciation.
A great part about PoetryGift.com is their poems are original so it truly is a unique gift, but the best part is you, the purchaser, can personalize the poems any way you like. There is even room for a picture. As I said earlier, they have a personalized poem for every occasion: BIRTHDAY, ANNIVERSARY, WEDDING, SYMPATHY and one of their best sellers I'M SORRY. The I'M SORRY personalized poem is very popular and while we are all going to mess up at one time or another, this personalized poem goes a long way to smoothing things over with a loved one.
There are so many options, I can't possibly list them all. I do want to add that all of these personalized poems can be framed and FREE SHIPPING is available. For a limited time PoetryGift.com has agreed to give all of our readers a 10% discount and FREE shipping when you use coupon code; AAEGLASS (no spaces).
Lets say you are a poet yourself and want to give your gift of word to a loved one. PoetryGift.com can design a layout for you to personalize your very own poem. If you ask me, there is no other gift that is more from the heart than a poem.
I have purchased several gifts from PoetryGift.com and have never been disappointed. When I include a piece of glass jewelry that I created with a personalized, framed poem with a picture, the responses have been off the charts.
Give PoetryGift.com a read. Even if you don't need a gift at the moment, chances are you will soon. Just reading the poetry on this site will give you motivation for creating with any medium you choose. I guaranty 100% that this will get your wheels turning and give you some extra, creative ideas.
I wish you all a great and productive day!

Four Fusing Secrets Inside
Yes, you can overlap decals to create some very interesting effects. I like to overlap trees and forest scenes over suns and moons to create the most realistic scenes. THIS REQUIRES SEPARATE FIRINGS! Apply your sun/moon, fire and then add your trees over the suns/moons. If you try it with one firing, you may get blistering of the decals.
Several of our glass decal designs come in both black & white. You have endless possibilities with this technique. Use a craft knife or scissors for precision cutting.
I am often asked how my decals appear so "black" in some of my pieces. Three factors to this: soak your decals in COLD water if you want more density. Drop your temp 10 degrees and drop your hold time from 10 to 8 minutes. TAKE NOTES! You can always refire our decals and not lose any detail. SO, it is best to underfire and start low!
Use colored frit, enamels or a complete different color of bottom glass to create your horizon line. This will add realism to your pieces and add "balance" to the piece.
