The 80's Room Gains Recognition

If you have walked through the AAE Glass Art Studio, no doubt you have seen the "80's room."  When we first opened, Molly and Tanya Veit had a vision to turn part of the studio into an 80's theme.  Both love that era and honestly, most of the decor was supplied by 80's swag that Molly already owned.  A small purchase on ebay for some 45's and album covers and the 80's room was born.

The fun style, numerous album covers and vinyl records have taken many a glass artist back in time.  It has become part of the creative process for some people in the studio.  Several glass artists have credited the 80's room with jump starting a design they are working on.  You can lose yourself in these walls.

Thank you to retroplanet.com for featuring Molly's work on their blog this week.  There are some unique retro ideas on this blog and worth a read if you have time.  Have a great weekend everyone.

Suncoast Glass Guild

Kelly of the Suncoast Glass Guild stopped by the AAE Glass Art Studio the other day and introduced herself.  She explained that she is organizing a glass guild for glass artists of all mediums and abilities on the gulf coast of Florida.  Kelly is in the process of recruiting glass artists for the guild and judging by the excitement and passion she spoke with in regards to this particular group, I am confident she will succeed.

Kelly's vision is to create a group of glass artists willing to share and learn from each other.  She feels especially strong about beginners.  We share the same line of thinking when it comes to people giving glass art a try.  We want to make it an enjoyable experience.  We believe that if you give a person a positive environment and honest instruction, more likely than not they will enjoy themselves and pursue glass art in the future.  Even if they don't pursue it, we can take pride that we represented the art of glass in a positive way.

We are happy to be involved with any organization that passionately and positively promotes glass art.  AAE Glass believes in supporting the glass artist and art community as a whole and the Suncoast Glass Guild represents exactly that.  To learn more about affordable membership, be sure to visit their website suncoastglassguild.org.

Glass Sandblasting Classes at AAE Glass Art Studio

Those of you who have recently taken a workshop at the AAE Glass Art Studio are aware of Tanya's affinity towards her sandblaster.  She is growing closer to it everyday.  In being Tanya, she immediately contacted IKONICS imaging and asked to speak with Darin Jones, who sold her the sandblaster in Las Vegas last year.  Darin is an expert in the field of sandblasting and Tanya was able to convince him to come to Cape Coral, Florida and give FOUR sandblasting workshops!  They can be taken individually or as a series.

Darin's job is to be good at sandblasting and as we found out, Darin is real good at his job!  He travels the world teaching sandblasting to corporations and artists alike.  If you have been on the fence about pursuing sandblasting of any kind, any one of these classes will give you a great feel for the art.  Several pieces will be produced by each student.

Go Ahead and Daydream, It's Good for you

Daydreaming is often thought of as wasting time or not being productive, especially in the work place.  New studies are showing that daydreaming is actually beneficial for your mind.  As the world becomes faster paced and more is demanded of us from teachers and bosses, it is becoming less likely that the average person is taking even just a few minutes for themselves to sort through thoughts and ideas or daydream about life or work goals.  It is when we daydream that we are able to relax our mind from the constant stimulation that we face everyday.  Whether it be family or work, there always seems to be a certain amount of stress we all feel and it adds up.  Daydreaming for a few minutes each day is a good way to relieve some of that stress and get your ducks in a row sort of speak.   You will feel more prepared to face the daily stresses in your life and ultimately become more productive.
If you are up north, lose yourself while watching the snow flakes fall from the sky.  Bring yourself back to your childhood when you used to make snow angels or build snow forts.
If you are in the south, take a seat on a bench outside and let the warm breeze take your mind elsewhere. Feel the sand beneath your toes on a beach or smell the freshly cut grass on the golf course.
One thing is for certain, once you start daydreaming, there is no telling where your brain will take you and it really doesn't matter.  Simply daydreaming for a few minutes will relieve some stress and help you to see things clearer.
As glass artists, I'm sure you will be able to generate some creativity that you can translate into your glass art.  Be sure to take a few minutes each day to reflect on your accomplishments as well as your goals. Your body, mind and soul will thank you as will your creativity.  When you are done daydreaming and you feel a renewed sense of energy and creativity, visit AAE Glass to turn your newly envisioned glass art ideas into a reality!

Tanya Veit's Glass Fusing Boot Camp at AAE Glass in Cape Coral, Florida

The enthusiasm in the AAE Glass Art studio this morning was like nothing I have seen before.  I stood in awe at the back of the room and listened to 10 talented and creative glass artists introduce themselves to each other.  The experience levels vary, but with Tanya putting on her show, experience doesn't matter.  If you are hungry to get more out of your glass fusing, Tanya will make sure exactly that happens and she will make sure you have fun doing it.
These glass artists traveled from around the country to participate in Tanya Veit's very first glass fusing boot camp this week and for many of them, this is their second trip to the AAE Glass Art studio in sunny Cape Coral, Florida.
To put this in context, AAE Glass is a Veit family run business, with Tanya and her glass fusing expertise leading the way.  The blessing and the curse of owning a family business is we see each other ALL of the time!  At work, Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, even on the rare days that we get off we will run into each other in the grocery store or the Monkey Bar (those of you who have visited us know where this is).     We are a very close knit group down here in SW Florida and we love to poke fun at each other as well as share in great opportunities.  It is all in good fun, but because Tanya is the "face" of the operation, we make sure not to let her get a big head from all of the emails from students saying things like; "I have been fusing glass and taking classes for 30 years and Tanya's workshop is by far the most fun I have ever had." or "Tanya's glass fusing techniques have helped me grow my business and I have been able to turn my glass art from a hobby into a full time job."  or my favorite and we get this one on a regular basis, "Taking Tanya's class has given me a new motivation and passion for glass fusing, before her class, I hadn't worked in my studio for years and now I can't get enough."  I think you get the picture that Tanya is not only changing the glass fusing world, but she is positively touching peoples lives along the way with her genuine caring attitude and her ability to instill confidence in the artists who just need a little push. She is not afraid to challenge her students.
That brings me back to this morning and listening to the introductions.  The compliments about Tanya that the repeat students were sharing with the first time students really made an impression.  The fact that these glass artists took the time out of their lives to travel to Cape Coral, Florida for a second time or a third time in some cases just to learn from Tanya is the highest compliment AAE Glass and Tanya Veit can be given.  I think today is the first day that we will take it easy on Tanya and not harass or tease her because she truly has earned her place in the glass fusing world and AAE Glass is ground zero. We are just getting started.
We have so many fun things planned this week outside of the studio; Dublin's Irish Pub tonight for a welcome dinner, the Monkey Bar on Friday for live music and dancing and to close out the week, a BBQ at Tanya's.  A Tanya Veit workshop is more than a learning experience, it is an experience all on its own.
I will do my best to give updates via this blog post throughout the week, but to truly get a feel of what I am describing, you will need to pack your bags and take a glass fusing vacation to SW Florida.  Consider your arm twisted!
