Cape Coral Art League Exhibit at the Cape Coral Library Saturday August 17th

There are some great local artists currently on display from the Cape Coral Art League at the Cape Coral library.  They invite you to attend a reception from noon until 2pm on Saturday, August 17th.  The Cape Coral library is located at 921 SW 39th Terrace in Cape Coral, Florida.  See what is new with the local art scene in Cape Coral, chat with the artists and enjoy some refreshments.

Some of the artists being featured are; Barbara Hewitt (paintings), Analilia Clay (drawings and paintings), Randy Clay (pottery) and a friend of AAE Glass Naldyne Light along with associate artist Katherine Busch.  Naldyne is the owner operator of Dolphin Wave Glass in addition to be a great voice for the art scene in SW Florida.

Take some time on Saturday, August 17th from noon until 2pm at the Cape Coral library and expose yourself to current trends in art and meet some great people who would love to meet you.

If you can't make the reception on August 17th, the artwork will be displayed until September 14th during the following hours:

Monday through Wednesday 9am-8pm

Thursday 9am - 6pm

Friday & Saturday 9am-5pm

My Glass Odyssey

We at AAE Glass like to share fun information with our readers whenever we can.  John Waterman (writer, director and producer) took a road trip to visit several different glass shops and came back with a documentary film called My Glass Odyssey. You can view the trailer as well as interviews with John on the My Glass Odyssey web page.
John and his dog Frito interviewed 99 glass artists in three years to compile this film.  John won a Silver Ace award for this documentary this past weekend and his dedication to spreading the word about glass art is just what this industry needs.  I believe that I speak for all glass artists when I say "Thanks for your work John."
AAE Glass shares in John's passion for glass art and vows to spread the word to anyone who will listen.  We hope you do the same.  Please share this with anyone you know who loves glass art or who enjoys a good documentary.

If you remember Color Me Bad from the 90's, you won't be able to get this jingle out of your head, my apologies.

We thought we would have some fun with our new product. These decals and paints can be permanently fired on your dichroic glass jewelry.  Never before has a decal been available that you can completely customize with your own colors. We have 9 paints available for you to choose from.  This opens up a whole new level of creativity when you think about color schemes and background colors.  

BE SURE TO LET THE PAINTS DRY FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE FIRING!!! Otherwise the paints will burn off. Fire at 325F for 30-35 minutes to make permanent.

Tanya teaches some unique techniques involving these paints and decals in her workshops across the country.  This is only one project of many, but this one is a hit!

Here are some guidelines for using these fusing decals and glass paints with your glass jewelry.

STEP ONE: Soak and apply decal to finished glass piece, allow to dry for 12 hours and fire to low fire decal schedule.

STEP TWO: Apply glass paints to decal areas with a BBQ wood skewer (found at any local grocery store.)

STEP THREE: Allow paints to dry for 24 hours.

STEP FOUR: Fire piece to 325 degrees F for 30 minutes.

DESIGN TIP: Use diluent to thin paints for a watercolor effect. Mix your own colors and use white to lighten up paints.

Art Glass Connection Workshop

I wanted to thank JoAnna Vitale and ART GLASS CONNECTION for hosting my most recent workshop.  It was a pleasure teaching in such a well run studio with such enthusiastic artists. 

JoAnna Vitale began her love affair with glass in 1991. She opened Art Glass Connection Stained Glass Studio in 1997 where she teaches, sells retail glass supplies, repairs stained glass and makes custom windows for residential and commercial clients. A few years ago, JoAnna began to experiment with fusible glass and the rest, as they say, is history.
I love to see the artists eyes light up when an idea clicks in their head.  Sometimes they just need 1 or 2 hints or tricks to take their jewelry to the next level.  I have no doubt these artists have taken that step to the next level.  I wish everyone luck and I'm sure I will see you down the road.

BREAKING THE RULES

We are pleased to announce a few advanced, dichroic glass fusing classes, taught by Tanya Veit, in the month of March..."Breaking the Rules."  We will be sending an official announcement to the public on Monday, but we wanted to give our blog followers first chance to sign up since you have supported us from the beginning.

These 3 classes are all in Florida.  We have booked Ed Hoy's International, in Illinois, the week of May 16th.  We will get that info out ASAP once everything is finalized.  It will be great to see our Sweet Home Chicago artists in the spring!


Below are Tanya's upcoming teaching dates in Florida for her Advanced Fused Glass Jewelry class "Breaking the Rules." Classes are restricted to 10 students in Venice and there will be 2 dates at this location due to so much interest. The class in Ft. Lauderdale is 15 student max. The cost is $295.00 for an intense 2 day workshop 10-4. This includes all glass, supplies and plenty of decals. We will be creating 6-8 jewelry pieces using Tanya's intricate techniques and secrets.  We will be announcing this officially to our e-mail list on Monday and we wanted to give you first chance since you inquired.
