Cape Coral, Florida Leads the Way in 2013 Employment Outlook

AAE Glass has had the pleasure of calling Cape Coral, Florida home for the past three years.  We have operated the AAE Glass Art Studio in the heart of downtown Cape Coral for the past year and have made it a priority to get involved with the community.  It is important to us as small business owners to portray the city in the best light whenever possible, that is why we are proud to share this article from Forbes Magazine with you.
Cape Coral/Fort Myers Florida is forecasting a 23% net job increase in 2013.  This is the highest number in the nation and the city is taking the lead very seriously.  Lee county, Florida was one of the hardest hit counties in America when the real estate bubble burst a few years ago.  After listening to political debates these past few months, no matter which side you are on, it is refreshing to read positive news, such as this.  If you haven't had the pleasure of visiting Cape Coral, Florida, take advantage if the opportunity presents itself.  For our glass artist friends located right here in SW Florida, lets make an effort to support art of all kinds and make Cape Coral, Florida a hotbed for artists of all mediums.

Robbie Daly Featured by AAE Glass

AAE Glass presents Robbie Daly, a featured artist.  Robbie has been a great customer and friend to AAE Glass and she has only good intentions behind all of her work as you will see below.  Thanks for sharing Robbie.  You can check out Robbie's work at the links provided below.

I have always loved glass for as long as I can remember!  I started working with stained glass then moved on to fused glass which lead to making jewelry.  Within a year of learning glass art I was showing my work as a member of a co-op gallery in the Washington DC area where I stayed for 5 years.  My interest in learning everything you could about glass, I moved on to making my own glass beads which I sell on ebay and have since become a Power Seller under the name of Bubbie Beads, which I even registered as a trademark!

I have always loved animals and my favorite breed the weimaraner has brought me almost 500 friends on facebook all over the world!  This past weekend I held a 3 day fund raiser for a rescued weimaraner in Florida named Maddie.  She spent most of her life in a crate with the exception of 4 hours a day.  Maddie needs knee surgery so she can run again and be pain free.  I sold my glass art and jewelry donating 100% of the proceeds which earned $467.50 during those 3 days to my friends on facebook - one large sale going to Canada with another to England!!  Today I added my money to the $467.50 to bring my donation up to $500 which I transferred to Maddie's Mom for her surgery next week.

As you'll see I love to wire wrap and taught several classes, several years ago, for a local gallery near me in Northern Virginia.   The wire wrap designs I'm showing you are simple designs I learned from a book years ago but my interest has since branched out into my own designs.  I love bracelets but hate struggling to put them on so I came up with a one piece design that can be hooked with one hand!   A few years ago a friend of mine had a weimaraner that she brought to nursing homes to visit the elderly and when the dog died she was so heart broken she asked me if I could come up with a jewelry design that would hold her dogs ashes.  I made a hollow bead sealing the ashes inside and wire wrapped it into a pendant!   My dog friends on facebook always talk about Rainbow Bridge and how when a dog dies they cross that bridge into heave so I came up with a design for a plate where I write the pet's names in gold.  The small pieces of dichroic glass going across the bridge represents the souls of the departed dogs while the small golden hearts represent a piece of each owner's heart that goes with their dog.  As you can see I do a very wide range of glass work and I pour my heart and soul into each piece I make!

I have a web site I really haven't had much time to fill with goodies to purchase but mostly sell on EBAY  as well as ARTFIRE.

How to Sell your Dichroic Glass Jewelry

Hello Bloggers,

My name is Mark Veit and I wanted to share some information that may help you with the business side of your dichroic glass jewelry making.  For most artists, there are 2 sides to making dichroic glass jewelry; the art of making a piece (which is what they live for) and the business side of selling the beautiful finished piece (not nearly as fun as making the jewelry). If you have purchased from AAEGlass.com chances are we have had communication.  I want to extend an offer to help you with the business side of your passion.

I have received many inquiries about how best to sell dichroic glass jewelry.  After asking several artists what their current approach is, I think I may have some tips that will help you consolidate your marketing plan, reduce your marketing budget and sell more dichroic glass jewelry.

We all know that making the jewelry pieces is the fun part.  But how do you sell them after they are completed to make money and produce more pieces, so on and so forth?  I found that many artists have full time jobs and only make jewelry in their spare time.  They may enroll in a weekend art or craft show, or sell on jewelry related websites such as Etsy or Artfire.  Some artists sell on Ebay and some sell door to door.  All of these outlets are great and can be profitable but whether you are a full or part time jewelry artist you need to be involved with social media.  How do you let people know where to find your jewelry?  How do you make yourself visible to the purchasing public?  How do people learn about the artist on a personal level which in turn raises the probability of making a sale?

The easiest and cheapest way to get exposure and become "known" is SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING.  Social media marketing is the most affordable (mostly FREE) and easiest way to reach thousands of people with the click of the button.  If you want to grow your business, you have no choice but to get highly involved in social media.  Social media is here to stay.  We are only in the beginning stages and it is only going to get bigger.  If you are reading this blog or if you found this blog on facebook or twitter, you are already using social media marketing.  Don't sit on the sidelines anymore. BECOME VISIBLE.

If you want to get started and expand your knowledge of social media, the only choice is to dive in.  The only expense you will incur is your time.  You need to devote at least 1 hour per day to whatever medium you choose.  I would suggest starting with a facebook account.  It is free to sign up and the security settings allow you to choose how "exposed" you want to be. I would be willing to bet most people reading this blog already have a facebook account.  But have you kept up with it?  Have you added friends lately?  Have you added new pictures of your jewelry, your vacation or your pet?  Have you joined any dichroic glass jewelry groups? How many of your friends are potential customers?  Facebook is a perfect opportunity to put your face on your product.  What I mean by that is you can meet thousands of people without ever shaking their hand.  You can share your hobbies, what you do in your spare time and most importantly, pictures of your finished pieces.  You can explain your thoughts behind each piece and grab the attention of potential buyers by communicating in seconds. Once you set up your facebook page, or get back into updating it, you can get more work done in less time.

This is just one avenue of social media marketing and there are several others that I will get into in the future.  In my opinion, facebook is the best place to start.  It is a site where you can mix business and pleasure and contrary to the old saying, this can be a great thing when it comes to social media.

If you have any questions about facebook or social marketing in general, please leave a comment on this blog.  If you have the question, chances are one of the hundreds of people who read this blog everyday have the same question.  Post your question directly under this blog and I promise to answer as fast as I can.  I am by no means claiming to be an expert on this subject, but I do have years of experience in social marketing and have seen radical changes and trends in a short amount of time.

Feel free to share this blog with anyone interested in learning about social media marketing.  This can apply to any business out there.  I look forward to blogging with you.

Have a great day!

Four Fusing Secrets Inside

Yes, you can overlap decals to create some very interesting effects. I like to overlap trees and forest scenes over suns and moons to create the most realistic scenes. THIS REQUIRES SEPARATE FIRINGS! Apply your sun/moon, fire and then add your trees over the suns/moons. If you try it with one firing, you may get blistering of the decals.

Use colored frit, enamels or a complete different color of bottom glass to create your horizon line. This will add realism to your pieces and add "balance" to the piece.
Several of our glass decal designs come in both black & white.  You have endless possibilities with this technique.  Use a craft knife or scissors for precision cutting.

I am often asked how my decals appear so "black" in some of my pieces. Three factors to this: soak your decals in COLD water if you want more density. Drop your temp 10 degrees and drop your hold time from 10 to 8 minutes. TAKE NOTES! You can always refire our decals and not lose any detail. SO, it is best to underfire and start low!
